Toners for Anti-Aging and Clear Skin
A toner is made in a spray bottle for the purpose of spraying or spritzing on your face to remove bacteria, prevent acme, refresh skin, protect against dirt and elements, prevent premature aging and more. These are great for both men and women. After shaving they are helpful to soothe skin and reduce irritation.
Problems Soap Causes
– Full of chemical ingredients such as Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS)
– Dry your skin
– Cause premature ageing
– Take away the natural defense your skin has called sebum
– Disturb the pH of your skin.
Often the reason people often have oily skin because their skin is constantly trying to balance the dryness caused from soap. Check out my blog on oil cleansing for more on that particularly for removing make up.

You could use the one from typical drug stores but those likely have been mixed with harsh alcohols that can irritate skin. So I always use an organic one free of chemicals and this one has a non-alcohol version that is great for people with dry or sensitive skin and it has rose petal added, which is very calming to the skin. The others are great for people with oily skin.
Rosacea
The only warning is people with Rosacea might have a reaction with witch hazel so proceed with caution. If you have rosacea, replace the witch hazel with evening primrose oil and that can be helpful.
Essential Oils that can help against Rosacea are:
- German Chamomile
- Lavender
- Tea Tree
- Rose
- Thyme
- Rosemary
- Eucalyptus
Other ideas to prevent Rosacea:
- Change your diet to remove any allergies, sensitives or common gut irritants as well as sugar, processed foods, dairy, fried foods, alcohol and coffee
- Avoid using prescriptions medicines either topically on the skin or taking prescription pills including antibiotics
- Use natural sunscreen like this one here.
- Taking eye medications or drops when rosacea spreads to the eye lids
- Lower Stress!!! – try some of my meditations here
- Try turmeric and ginger tea here
- Use Aloe Vera topically – see this blog
Moisturizers for these Toners
Now this will normally evaporate from your face so I like to make it more of a moisturizer by adding other oils. Try:
– Jojoba oil (my favorite or the 3 stabilizer oils mentioned below)
A tsp in 4 oz of any of those stabilizers is good.
Then add 15 – 30 drops of our favorite essential oils for skin.
Avoid citrus oils on your skin since they are phototoxic and can cause sun damage.
– Lemon
– Grapefruit
– Orange

Why I choose Thayers (click photo for link)
Natural alcohol-free toners and astringents to achieve healthy looking skin, adding moisture while helping to protect the skin from airborne impurities.
I like Thayers Witch Hazel extract (made from Certified Organic Witch Hazel and derived from the bark) is not distilled, thereby maintaining all the beneficial natural tannins. Other brands of Witch Hazel use distillation. The distillation process reduces the concentration of tannins.
Benefits of Tannins:
Tannins can help remove the extra oil from your skin. Since Thayers are not distilled they contain 195% more tannins.
Tannins may reduce irritation. The anti-inflammatory properties of the tannins found in our Witch Hazel Toners and Astringents work to soothe your skin on the spot.
Tannins are magic for your skin! The mystical antioxidant properties for tannins attach to free radicals to your skin, which may leave your pores squeaky clean and your skin with a youthful glow.
Say bye to dry skin and hello to relief! Toners, especially those with natural tannins like ours, help to balance the skin’s pH levels and keep it from getting too dry or too oily.
Alcohol or not?
Thayers astringents contain alcohol. Their Lemon Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Astringent contains 10% natural grain alcohol by volume. Their Medicated Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Topical Pain Reliever contains 20% grain alcohol and 0.1% Camphor (external analgesic) by volume.
Our alcohol-free toners are gentle on the skin and are not as drying as the alcohol astringents. The alcohol in the astringents makes it more heavy-duty and better for skin that tends to be on the oily side. So, people that have dry or sensitive skin should choose an alcohol-free toner. Those with oily skin would do better with an astringent containing alcohol. You should use alcohol-free with children.
The latest Thayers blog post talk more about the benefits of the different toners and astringents.
