Getting over anxiety and depression
Summary – “Timelines” can be a powerful motivator, but for many they have the opposite effect.
In Part One we talked about how to overcome anxiety psychologically, spiritually, and nutritionally. Having an awareness of the “timelines” you keep will allow you to discover reasons why you may be building anxiety without even realizing it.
Timelines – Getting over Anxiety and Depression
Timelines are the period of time in which someone expects they should have obtained an achievement or goal, usually related to what they consider success. This occurs with being married, having money, losing weight, buying a house, having a baby, having a specific job or career, and could be anything.
It’s anything you want by a certain age or time in your life. You might not even realize you have the timeline until after it has past. Such as when someone turns 30 and they begin to look at all they didn’t achieve or they imagined they would by that age, thus making them feel bad. The action they take at this point often could break down their ethics, go against their best judgment, or do something that will go against their happiness.
If a change is made is going to be made, have awareness to make it a step in a positive direction. It might be severing an unhappy relationship, quitting an unsatisfying job, or even joining a dating service like match.com.
Taking the opposite action to get okay with not having what you wanted is also a good idea. This includes working on yourself, becoming more spiritual, or finding someway to have compassion for yourself. This often makes a person feel much more complete and helps them to ease into the success they want to achieve.
I am not saying all timelines are bad, but they can be a big source of anxiety or fear and could cause much more harm than good. They can be used as a strong motivator depending on the person, if that is you and you feel happy and anxiety or depression free, then by all means continue. But if you feel bad, anxious, like you are a failure, then they need to be eliminated and to find some other means of motivation because they are having the opposite effect of what you want.
