Best Supplements to Boost Memory and Brain Power
Best Supplements, Herbs, Foods & Activities for Brain Power
The information offered in this blog might seem overwhelming at first. I use 95% of the products mentioned and the diet and activities for brain-boosting almost 100%. That’s because I find them helpful and almost necessary for a high-efficiency lifestyle as I am writing multiple books, seminars, and other writing projects, also giving the seminars along with a full client list while also trading currencies and following trends, while maintaining at least 7 hours of sleep, working out, a great relationship, and cooking and eating healthy.
If you are just here to get some supplements and possibly some advice to find mental clarity, then take the top 2 supplements or just the mind-body lab supplement and read the rest and use it as a seed. You don’t have to do all of it, think of it as a build up. Hearing this information for the first time can either point something out to you that you didn’t know or a reminder for future use when you want to go to the next step.
Brain-boosting actions & exercises:
– Meditation – Proven in Harvard Science to increase neuro-plasticity, relaxation, lower stress and balance hormones.
– Chi gong – Many of the same effects as meditation with added physical benefits.
– Using your weak hand as often as possible for things like brushing teeth, operate a phone, opening door locks, etc. This helps to build the left and right brain connection.
– Proprioception – This is the bodies sense to itself including position in movement and equilibrium. This can be tested by closing your eyes and standing on one foot and seeing how your balance holds up. Exercises for this can build this just like a muscle and can be found here. Those include standing on 1 foot, eyes closed (can be done with week hand exercise as well such as brushing your teeth.) This can help build neuro-plasticity as well.
– Learning to play a musical instrument
– Partner dancing
– Learning new things to exercise the mind.
– Exercise – proven to be more effective than many prescription drugs for anxiety and depression.
– Grounding – Getting in touch with the earth and getting an “earthing” mat. I use my mat every night when I sleep and have my feet on one at my desk and notice a big difference when I’m not using it. See my full blog for that here.
– Sleep:
One of the primary factors in brain fog is a lack of sleep. See my blogs for how to get a good night sleep here.
Heavy Metals:
Another big factor in forgetfulness, irritability and other neurological issues is high levels of heavy metals in their system. This is too often overlooked and in our modern world every person should be detoxing for this but for sure if you are suffering from b
rain fog or lack of memory I would suggest getting a heavy metal check. If you cook on metal pans, have silver fillings, or eat a lot of fish particularly sushi you can just about guarantee you have high levels of heavy metals. Even commercial deodorant and especially antiperspirants as many have aluminum in them. See my blog here on deodorant and how to make your own. Even a perfectly healthy lifestyle can still give a person heavy metal toxicity as it comes from chem-trails, organic foods and showering in tap water.
Heavy metals can be tested with a blood test at a lab that tests for this. While you’re there I would have them test all of your levels including Vitamin D, testosterone, magnesium, and cholesterol.
Avoiding Brain Fog or Forgetfulness
Typical causes are any of these are lack of sleep, high level of heavy metals, nutritional deficiencies from poor diet or allergy to foods such as gluten, Candida overgrowth, high inflammation, hormonal imbalance (often stemming from thyroid issues). Another cause is looking at your computer screen too long as it stops a left and right brain connection. See this video on a simple way to help that –
Electro Magnetic Frequencies (EMF’s) –
This can be avoided by not holding your cell phone to your head, not sitting at a desk or sleeping near a smart meter, not using a microwave, or having your computer or other devices on your lap. See my full blog for other ways to protect yourself here.
Foods:
Health fats promote brain health and vitality. Those include certain fish (I only eat wild Alaskan Salmon and Sardines wild caught in water with bones), avocado, nuts (walnuts are best), olive oil, coconut oil, ghee (clarified butter), red palm oil, and fermented foods over probiotics. Fermented foods will rebuild gut bacteria producing serotonin and neurotransmitters, increasing brain power. (See book called “The Second Brain”) Blueberries, blackberries, Acai, and dark grapes are good for brain health as well. If you eat meat choose high quality animal fats as they have proven health benefits in small amounts including bone broth. That is only pasture raised and organic, same with eggs, which high quality like this are also good for brain function, just be sure to include the yolk. Other foods helpful for brain function are beets, broccoli, celery, dark chocolate, and green leafy vegetables as they are all antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, prebiotics and nutrient dense.
Herbs
These are my favorite herbal supplements for brain power. If you click the photo you will find a link to the product. There are options for pill form, powder, tea, or tincture. Use what is most convenient and follow the dosage on the bottle.
– Phosphatidylserine (PS AKA lecithin) – The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA work synergistically with PS to provide the building blocks for healthy cell membranes helping with memory, learning, and focus. This powerhouse nutrient also supports the brain cell’s ability to release and bind with neurotransmitters, further aiding in healthy mood, brain communication, and cognitive ability. Fortunately, phosphatidylserine seems to act as a potent protector of this stress-induced damage to the hippocampus, sparing the brain from shrinkage and boosting memory function. Phosphatidylserine also reduces cortisol, and encourages the release of serotonin, acetylcholine, and dopamine. This is rarely found in food so supplementing is beneficial.
– Bacopa (AKA- Brahmi) – helps with memory, and brain disease prevention from stress and environmental toxins, prevent anxiety depression as well. Neurotransmitters are chemicals brain cells use to communicate with each other and regulate mood, appetite, addictio
ns, energy, libido, motivation, and more. They control your ability to focus, concentrate, memory, and turn off your mind when it’s time to relax and go to sleep. Bacopa is a master neurotransmitter regulator that dials their production up or down as needed. Also balances stress hormones. See how bacopa compares to Adderall here – https://draxe.com/bacopa/
– Ginkgo Biloba – an herbal superstar for aiding brain oxygenation and circulation to the brain that helps with focus, improving memory and cognitive abilities and helps to fight anxiety and depression.
– Periwinkle – Vinpocetine a compound in periwinkle boosts circulation in your brain and improves the brain’s ability to absorb nutrients, all of which improve brain function. Research shows that it works as well as ginkgo biloba. This is also great for stroke and brain diseases and prevention.
Can be taken as a tea or a supplement
Mushroom:
Lion’s mane mushroom (hedgehog mushroom) –
As a tea Buddhist monks used this from ancient times to help with concentration. Helps with cognitive function, brain diseases, memory, anxiety, and depression.
Also is an antioxidant and helps to improve circulation and lover inflammation.
Spices:
Turmeric – Stops brain inflammation
Rosemary – Helps protect the brain from neurodegeneration
Supplements:
These are the supplements I like best, you can find videos and links explaining each of these on my blog on what supplements I take here.
Main Supplements I like and take for brain function:
– Omega 3’s – Carlson’s cod liver oil
– Vitamin D – get your vitamin d to an adequate level – receptors for vitamin d all over the hippocampus. Most people (80%) are deficient in this.
– Magnesium – Most people (75%) are deficient in this as well and is an important mineral for brain function. See my video here on how to get this transdermally, for the best absorption.
– Zinc – Focus, calm, anxiety, sleep and also great for avoiding seasonal illness and helps with testosterone.
– Blue Green Algae – Very helpful for brain fog and other issues. See the video I have in this blog on the supplements I take by scrolling down on this page here.
Combined Supplement:
Mind Lap Pro
If you just want one supplement to take, this one has a nice combination of a few herbs and vitamins I like.
order here – http://www.mindlabpro.com/order/
I like it because it has all natural ingredients, I’ve read a lot of positive feedback and reviews from it, has no caffeine or other stimulants like I find with some all natural supplements. It helps with focus, concentration, mood, memory and overall cognitive function that actually works and will offer a noticeable difference in a short time. Of the 25 or so top specific supplements for brain function, this is the best one I’ve found.
You can read a full review here – https://focushereandnow.com/mind-lab-pro/
Others I like as well:
– Probiotics – Restore (I’m not a big fan of taking probiotics as there are few strands of the 30k that are in your body but I like this product restore as it helps to rebuild the gut wall.
– Vitamin B12 – Good for memory loss as well as helping with low energy, anxiety & depression, diabetes and more.
– CoQ10 – (use ubiquinol if over 30) See a video for this in the blog on what supplements I take here.
– N-Acetyl L Cysteine (NAC) – Helps to boost glutathione and protect from heavy metals
– Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)
Essential oils for mental clarity and brain health:
These can be taken orally under the tongue (if an edible grade), used in a diffuser or put at the bottom of the feet.
– Rosemary – The smell of rosemary boosts our ability to recall past events and remember what to do in the future, research claims. (see video below)
– Cedarwood – Sniffing this helps to improve focus and ADHD.
– Vetiver – Sniffing Vetiver helped increased performance by 100% in a study for those with ADHD. Has powerful calming properties as well. (see sources below)
– Frankincense – Crosses the blood-brain barrier and helps other essential oils to their job. This is great for meditation and relaxation. It can even to help build brain tissue for brain injury.
– Lavender – helps for relaxation and lowering stress, important for mental clarity and memory.

To Help Brain Function Stop all:
– Alcohol
– Drugs
– Grains and gluten – Grains cause inflammation causing many brain issues, this includes oatmeal, cereals, all breads, wheat germ, and granola. (I do like sprouted quinoa) – See this video here from the book grain brain –
– Sugar, including empty carbs (most snacks, bread white potatoes, pasta)
– Overeating of proteins – body absorbs at max 20-30 grams of protein, anything more will turn to sugar and fat. This is the size of a very small hamburger if you eat meat.
– Dairy – Many people have dairy issues and do not know it and can affect brain clarity. – See my full blog and videos here on this.
– Fluoride – get water filters for drinking and showering, and travel
– Paints, lacquers, air fresheners, hairsprays, commercial cleaning products – see my blog on indoor air toxins.
– Stress – Take every step to reduce as much as possible. This is the root of all disease. We lose at least 50% of our brain power while under stress and are not in our conscious mind but operate from our subconscious.
– Giving into anxiety – avoid spinning into anxiety further but instead realizing it’s pattern and thinking in another direction.
– Impact sports or other activities – Heavy sparring in martial arts, football, rugby etc.
– BPA – Found in plastics. Don’t use your microwave, drink water from a plastic bottle, use straws or anything else that has plastic that you eat.

Dr. Amen:
I am a big fan of Dr. Amen and his work and would recommend his books and videos you can find on youtube. I like his supplements as well but found them expensive and can get the same ingredients less expensive found above.
His best seller according to his staff is – “Brain and body power” – It’s 3 products (multivitamin, omega 3, and brain and memory power boost) They say people notice a difference in 2-4 weeks. https://www.brainmdhealth.com/brain-and-body-power
