The Anti-Anxiety Diet

Concept

I believe with something like anxiety or depression there is an arsenal of things working against you in our modern world. Therefore you need an arsenal to fight it and I present that below. Food is just one aspect as it can change your energy, your thought process, blood flow to the brain, hormones, and more all directly affecting your anxiety in the same way drugs would. Below the diet, you will find supplements, herbs and other things that I’ve seen help even serious cases. Don’t be overwhelmed by them just do what works for you and leave the rest.

With this diet, it is important to not have any stimulants. I would suggest avoiding red meat especially those non-organic and Pasture-raised. This is because they are laced with pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones which all will cause more anxiety, depression, and poor mental clarity. But further eating the meat of another mammal will take on their energy, which is never good no matter how they are killed, and since they have a lot of cortisol (stress hormone) in their blood when killed you will be taking on this as well. At least don’t eat the meat of another mammal during your sensitive times and watch how you are affected when you do. And all pork and pork products should be avoided as it contains certain bacteria toxic for our system.

More on Meat – Now, on the other hand, if after 4 to 6 weeks of trying this diet if it has not worked for you at the bottom of this blog, I have a video of Mikhaila Peterson talking about how she overcame her depression and anxiety eating only meat. I don’t suggest that unless you have tried this first as I believe that diet can have many unhealthy effects on your heart and other organs. I offer it as an option when all else has failed though.

A note on TV – As part of the process of this, I would suggest avoiding television and films since they are shown to cause anxiety and depression, as we picture ourselves in the dilemma of the main character, causing incredible stress on our system.

Fermented Foods

The greatest concentration of serotonin, which is involved in mood control, is found in your intestines, not your brain! Perhaps this is one reason why antidepressants, which raise serotonin levels in your brain, are often ineffective in treating depression. Research has also shown that certain probiotics can help alleviate anxiety by modulating the vagal pathways within the gut-brain; affecting GABA levels, and lowering the stress-induced hormone corticosterone. This is why some say probiotics are the new Prozac.

To restore your healthy gut bacteria, taking probiotics fermented foods are recommended. This is because, although probiotics are better than nothing at all, they only can offer about 15 strands of the 30,000 that are in our body. So you don’t want to get an overgrowth of those without any others. If you are taking them be sure to switch off between the two brands recommend in my supplement blog below. Regarding gut bacteria, I recommend a supplement called “Restore,” to help rebuild the gut wall. This will help to stop leaky gut, joint pain and rebuild damaged gut bacteria.

Foods to avoid

  • Any and all Stimulants – sugar, sodas, energy drinks, coffee, caffeine, sodas juices, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, chocolate
  • All dairy, milk, yogurt, ice cream, butter, especially pasteurized dairy and non-dairy creamers
  • Eggs – These feed viruses that make mood worse
  • All white flour foods including pastas, all bread, cereal, etc.
  • Starchy foods such as regular potatoes or white rice, granola.
  • Processed foods – Anything in a package, ready to make, microwaved, or with other ingredients outside of how it appears in nature.
  • All foods that may contain genetically modified ingredients (GMO’s)
  • Vegetable oils, margarine, or other processed foods
  • Acid forming foods – regular pickles (Lacto fermented are okay), eliminate eggs, sour cream, as they are all acid creating foods, which drop magnesium levels.
  • Table salt – Use Himalayan Pink Salt instead
  • Pork – Including bacon and ham if you didn’t know.
  • Fried foods
  • Peanut butter (almond butter is okay)

Foods to eat:

  • All beans (preferred sprouted or pressure cooked)
  • Wild Alaskan salmon and wild-caught sardines in water – High in Omega 3’s
  • Acai berries & Wild blueberries – high in antioxidants
  • – Nuts especially Walnuts and almonds and nut butters (no peanuts or peanut butter)
  • All leafy greens – salad with spinach kale, dandelion, chard, parsley, cilantro, beets, arugula, etc. – Feed good bacteria and high nutrients.
  • – All Squash especially winter squash – plant source of omega 3’s and nutrients
  • Sweet potatoes or yams – No regular Potatoes
  • Organic and pasture raised chicken and roasted turkey (not deli meat turkey)
  • Olive oil, avocado oil, hemp oil (all cold pressed and organic) – healthy fats
  • – Use Himalayan pink salt
  • Minimal organic fruit is okay
  • Hemp protein powder
  • Quinoa – preferred sprouted
  • Millet

Snacks

  • Nuts, dates, figs, baby carrots, raw green beans, herbal popcorn, my homemade ice cream and my herbal chocolate.
  • Morning Smoothie I like is with acai (from trader joes), ½ cut frozen blueberries & raspberries, ½ banana, hemp protein and ¼ teaspoon raw cacao.

Turmeric , Maca root, American Ginseng (from Wisconsin), raw cacao, passion flower, vital adapt, ginkgo biloba, kava (do not use kava if you have liver issues)

Breathing Exercises

Set alarm 3 times per day as a reminder to take 7-10 Deep breaths, and hold posture tall. Also, do this anytime you feel an attack or nervous.

Physical Exercise

Specifically high intensity (sprinting, cycle, heavy weight or circuits). But at any time when you feel bad jump up and down, do an invert like downward dog or headstand. The quickest way to change your psychology is to change your physiology.

Sleep

Use ball of light meditation specifically to remove a sense of helplessness, shame, guilt or other negative emotions such as this.

Each video will give you a better idea of why I take each supplement. They are all natural whole food organic versions of them that speed up the time to health in mind and body. They might seem like a lot to you but they all handle different aspects of your body and what toxins to fight off in a modern world of toxicity.

People often ask me if they are cursed. It’s not usually the case but people often carry negative energy. Explanations of not to eat foods

  • – Fried Foods are difficult to digest, have little nutritional content, and contribute to heart struggles. It’s very difficult to reduce your anxiety if your body is poorly processing the food you consume.
  • – Alcohol – Set aside the fact that drinking alcohol can cause you to do crazy things that create more anxiety in your life, alcohol itself is terrible for your body. It dehydrates you, it throws off your hormone and nutritional balance, and it can cause physical symptoms from the toxins that trigger anxiety attacks.
  • – Coffee – Excess coffee is a known anxiety stimulant. In moderation (ie, once a day in the morning), it may not trigger anxiety in people who don’t struggle with this, but the more you drink the more you increase your risk. Coffee also creates a rapid heartbeat and some sensations that may create panic attacks.
  • – Dairy Products – Dairy may heighten your adrenaline levels and contribute to a more anxious state. I would suggest not even that little bit you put in your coffee. Pasteurization is also terrible since it has dead bacteria that rot in your gut.
  • – Refined Sugars – Sugar, like caffeine, stimulates your body in a way that can create a jitteriness that exacerbates anxiety symptoms.
  • – White flour foods – Cause leaky gut, joint pain, inflammation, gas, brain fog & “grain brain”, premature aging, weakened immunity and feeds bad gut bacteria, and can lead to all illness and disease. They are also addictive and cause cravings for other unhealthy foods.
  • – Processed foods – These contain all sorts of harmful ingredients including transfats, sodium, sugar and many more. There is no nutrition since they cannot be digested and broken down and disrupt your gut bacteria. They can cause inflammation, pain, obesity, lack of energy and fatigue, weakened immunity, sickness, and disease.
  • – Vegetable oils – These rancid oils cause digestive problems, allergies, liver problems, premature aging, inflammation, and pain.
  • – Pork- Pigs do not have few pathways to remove toxins since they have no sweat glands, so they carry a lot of superbugs, bacteria and diseases, disease-causing pathogens, they are scavengers, high in omega 6’s, and cause many health problems. Can cause fungus, bacteria, and Candida overgrowth, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, arthritis, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, asthma and impotence.
  • – Table salt (or ionized salt) is devoid of minerals due to refining, Contains an uneven balance of minerals mostly high sodium 97.5% sodium chloride and an assortment of chemicals such as dangerous fluoride, synthetic iodine, sugar, and bleaching agents, anti-caking agents, toxic amounts of potassium iodide and aluminum derivatives. Also, the intense heating process causes this sodium chloride substance’s internal crystalline structure to become individually isolated, meaning that it is energetically dead. Your body has to work tenfold to metabolize it, using energy that other cells and organs need. Can cause high blood pressure, cardiovascular issues, muscle cramps, stroke, arthritis, kidney stones, cellulite, PMS, rheumatism, digestion issues, bloating, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, and more. Replace with Himalayan pink salt (secondary is sea salt)
  • – Peanut butter – Contain afalotoxins (mold that can cause cancer) The highest amounts were found in fresh ground in health food stores. They also have a terrible omega 6:3 ratio, they are high in lectins (anti-nutrients) causing inflammation and pain. Commercial brands are mixed with table salt, sugar, soybean, canola, corn and/or cottonseed oils, which are genetically modified, and may contain trans fats, but even organic health food brands should be avoided. Because of the aflotoxins and other ingredients they can increase risk of heart disease, can cause cancer, inflammation, diabetes, asthma, allergies, depression and weight gain. Peanuts contain little bioavailable vitamins relative to what you have to eat in order to get them. Replace with almond or other nut butter and refrigerate

As mentioned in this video Mikhaila Peterson explains a diet she uses after trying everything else that did not work for her. In this diet, she explains how she only eats red meat. This is something I don’t agree with as a sustainable solution as it has been shown to cause ill effects on the heart and other organs, however, I offer it as an option for those suffering with nothing else working for them.
