All Natural DIY Conditioners – Part 2

All Natural DIY Conditioners

These are DIY conditioners. In Part one with Shampoo, there are commercial conditioners with natural ingredients. In part one I also explain why washing and conditioning your hair daily with commercial products is not only unnecessary but damaging to both your hair and scalp. Below are inexpensive, healthy options that will give body, shine and take away frizz.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar Conditioner

Benefits:
An excellent treatment for the hair and scalp is unfiltered apple cider vinegar, which is cleansing the hair, giving it more body and luster and also reduces hair loss, itching scalp and dandruff by destroying the fungi and bacteria that clog the hair follicles.
If you want to enhance a healthy and smooth hair, remove the build-up from styling hair products, help hair growth and healthy scalp or make proper pH balance, you should wash your hair with this method, and the alpha-hydroxy acid will help you achieve all this things. It’s a necessary ‘conditioner’ to get soft, shiny, and manageable hair. What the ACV does is close the cuticles of your hair allowing it to protect itself.

It is great in promoting blood circulation in small blood capillaries under the skin and is an anti-yeast, antiseptic shampoo, bacteria and viruses which can cause infection in the hair and scalp. All Natural DIY Conditioners

After the 3 week period you will notice:
More body, Less oily hair days, a lot less frizz even with curly-hair, shinier hair more natural feeling, and much less chemicals on scalp and skin.

The Benefits of using Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse

  • Removes dead skin cells and promotes healthy hair growth
  • Gives hair a nice shine
  • Neutralizes the pH levels of your hair follicles
  • Removes dandruff
  • Excellent for relieving itchy, dry and flaky scalp
  • Removes build-up in hair

in order to encourage hair growth – ACV treats the clogged hair follicles due to bacterial infection that creates crusty peels on the scalp (which can result in hair loss).

How Often Can I Use The Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse Treatment?

• Straight, Fine, Thin or Short Hair — Use once a week
• Wave, Curly, Thick or Long Hair — Use once every 2 weeks
• Naturally Kinky or Thick Hair — Use once every 6 — 8 weeks
• Chemically straighten or treated hair — Use once a month
How To Use Apple Cider Vinegar for Various Types of Hair
• Straight, Fine, Thin or Short Hair — 1 tablespoon of ACV mixed with 1 cup of warm water
• Wave, Curly, Thick or Long Hair — ½ cup of ACV mixed with ¼ of warm water
• Naturally Kinky or Thick Hair — 1 cup of ACV with 3 cups of water
• Chemically straighten or treated hair — 1/2 cup of ACV mixed with 2 cups of warm water

To “condition” the ends of your hair with the proper mixture of apple cider vinegar (above) and water. It’s a good idea to just on the ends for the first few weeks so not to force over production of oils. Then you can rinse your whole head in it.

Soft Texture
While wet, in the shower your hair will NOT feel soft and silky like it does with commercial conditioners, but don’t bail out and add conditioner. After your hair dries, it will be softer and smoother than with commercial conditioner

Worried About the Smell of ACV?
Don’t be – I promise you will not smell like a walking pickle jar! If you did, believe me, no one, including me would use this, despite being into green or natural. Once your hair dries, the vinegar smell disappears. In fact, it starts to dissipate right after rinsing and I don’t notice a smell at all.

2. Honey and Coconut Oil Conditioner – For Strengthening

This conditioner is ideal for hair that dislikes protein conditioners but needs a bit of strengthening. The key is the coconut oil, which binds to the hair thus reducing keratin loss. Honey is also added to the mix to impart moisture retention.
Ingredients:
– 4 tbs of extra virgin coconut oil
– 2 tbs of pure honey
(Use amount depending on hair density or length)

Instructions:
Place the coconut oil and honey in a small cup and place the cup in a large bowl of hot water. Allow the cup to sit in the water for a few minutes until the mixture is warm. Pour the mixture onto freshly washed but towel blotted hair. Put on a shower cap, and wrap with a towel to prevent mixture from dripping onto face. Let it sit for 20 minutes, then rinse out 80-90% of the conditioner, and style as usual.

3. Oils – Counts as a Conditioner, Leave-In Conditioner and Even Styling Cream!

Put a small about in the palm of your hand and finger them through my hair while still in the shower. Then, take a wide-toothed comb and gently comb out tangles. Then run the water over your hair or you can leave it in, but it will be a bit more oily. So, do what works best for you!
• Jojoba Oil (click photos for links). Jojoba is easily absorbed into skin and hair because it is very similar to sebum.
Castor Oil – also recommended for skin and hair.

Make the switch, stop using chemical laden Moroccan Oil. 100% pure Argan oil works just the same making your hair smooth, frizz free, shiny and dry faster.

• Mix in a 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oils for scent

Broccoli Seed Oil for Anti-Frizz

Many products designed to reduce frizz contain silicone. Short term, it coats the hair and makes it shiny – an illusion that causes damage to your hair long-term. Gradually, the silicone builds up and suffocates the hair follicles.
An alternative is cold-pressed broccoli seed oil, a clean and organic alternative to the synthetic silicone-based products. Broccoli seed oil provides deep absorption and moisturization without leaving the hair greasy. It repairs the hair from the inside out, giving you natural and long lasting frizz-free shine for a great home remedies for dry hair.

4. All Natural Deep Conditioner with Coconut Cream

People are really interested in all natural care products. I’ve had a lot of great questions about my natural lathering shampoo recipe. And several people have wondered the best treatments for colored or chlorine damaged hair. That’s why I’m happy to give you guys this awesome little recipe: An all natural deep conditioner for your hair using coconut cream!

If you’ve been around this blog for a while you already know that I love to include a lot of saturated fats in my diet (from real, clean food). Fat is essential to good health. Saturated fats and cholesterol are essential for repairing the body. Sounds like a perfect fit for an natural deep conditioner.
Due to its high content of saturated fat, coconut is an excellent emulsifier to restore damaged hair. In fact, young girls in Indonesia wash their hair with coconut milk for its all natural deep conditioning qualities!

Coconut Cream Hair Rinse: An all natural deep conditioner

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup fresh coarsely grated coconut meat*
  • 1/2 cup fresh coconut milk (like this)
  • 2 teaspoons raw honey
  • 1 fresh vanilla bean, cut into small pieces (optional, but a great addition)
*Fresh coconut is always going to give superior results. You have to buy whole coconuts, cut them open and cut out the meat.

Directions:

  1. 1. In a mixing bowl, combine the coconut meat, milk, and honey.
  2. Place vanilla bean in a coffee grinder and grind until smooth. Combine vanilla with coconut and honey mixture.
  3. Pour mixture into palms of hands and apply to damp hair.
  4. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

5. Aloe Vera and Glycerine –

Although this is a pH balanced shampoo, it is also a leave-in conditioner, and spritzer

Also mentioned in Shampoo, this ph-balanced because aloe vera and glycerin both have a neutral pH of 7, so they are a great option for the health of your hair. Glycerin acts as a cleaner bonding to dirt while the aloe smooths the cuticle and moisturizes the hair. Put in a spray bottle because, glass preferred. Especially don’t use a plastic bottle if you add essential oils to the recipe – they will make the plastic deteriorate. I get my glass bottles on Amazon here. (click photo on the right)

Here is the Recipe:
– 1/4 cup of pure aloe vera, If you don’t make it yourself (see my cutting aloe video here) (this one is pure, from Aubrey Organics)

– 1/4 cup vegetable glycerine (you can use less glycerine if you are just conditioning)

– 1/2 cup filtered water

– Essential oils for scent or to treat a problem if desired – Tea Tree and Lavender are great for psoriasis and dandruff, and carrot seed and rosemary are healing to the scalp and help promote hair growth.

Pour all ingredients into a spray bottle and shake. Shake before each use. It can be used as shampoo, rinsing out, or in between washes as a leave-in conditioner and a spritzer to freshen up curls. It helps to tame the frizz as well.

Other Notes

  • I use vegetable glycerine because it is derived from vegetables and not from animal fats like regular glycerine is.
  • I use pure aloe vera gel either from the leaf as mentioned or the one above (click photo) that contains no added alcohols or fragrances, as those can be unnatural and drying to the hair. To use it from the plant you might have to blend it because it’s so thick, along with the other ingredients.
  • This is best kept refrigerated.
  • If you have really dry hair you may want to add a teaspoon of Vitamin E oil, jojoba oil, or sweet almond oil to the mixture.
