10 Homeopathic Ways To Get Over Being Sick

Immune boosting Techniques to Prevent and overcome Cold, flu and other illness.

As mentioned in previous blogs getting over being sick and preventing more illness is based on a lifestyle change. That means lowering stress, getting enough sleep and eating the right foods and avoiding the wrong ones. Click here for the complete list of lifestyle changes and vitamins / supplements to take to avoid being sick.

Coconut Oil

– Put coconut oil on a Q-tip and rub it on the inside of your nose or your children’s. (click photo for link)  Coconut oil is antimicrobial/anti-fungal/antibacterial and will help prevent germs getting into your system through your nose where you get sick from (not from your mouth) Another reason why putting anything dirty, such as your finger, in your nose is no good!
– Coconut Oil is high in lauric acid and is thought to dissolve the lipid coating around some viruses and make them more susceptible to attack by the immune system. If sick, aim for 5-6 tablespoons per day in food or melted and stirred into hot tea. Coconut oil has many other health benefits as well and is known to boost the immune system.

Hydrogen Peroxide

At the first sign of cold, flu, sinus infection, or ear infection, pour a dropper (or cap) full of hydrogen peroxide into each ear. Have the person lie still with the hydrogen peroxide in the ear until it stops bubbling. Do this on both sides. This is especially effective for kids. Repeat every few hours until infection is gone.

Face Steam with Ess ential Oils

10 Homeopathic ways to get over being sickBoil 1-2 cups of pure water in a large pot. Remove from heat, add 2 drops of each of thyme, rosemary and 1 drop of oregano. (can be made by boiling herbs as well) Cover for 5 minutes with a lid, and then remove lid and put face directly over pot with towel covering your head to hold in the heat. Breathe in the steam as long as you can, aim for 10-15 minutes. This will help loosen congestion and kill viruses and bacteria in the lungs, bronchials or sinuses. Alternately, you can use 1/2 cup vinegar in the steam. It won’t smell great, but it will help fight the illness.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Prevents sickness by creating an alkaline pH and illness cannot exist in an alkaline environment. It breaks up mucus, helps with allergies, controls blood sugar level, and much more. This is great to take first thing in the morning on an empty stomach to create that healthy pH environment. (I use 1 tablespoon in a glass of water) It also contains probiotics to improve your gut flora.

ACV w/ Honey & Cinnamon – Try this for cold, cough. – has Alkalizing benefits from ACV, antibacterial from honey and immune boosting of cinnamon. — 8-10oz filtered water (warm to simmer), 1/8 teaspoon organic cinnamon, 1 teaspoon organic unfiltered raw honey, 1 tablespoon ACV.

ACV with Cayenne and ginger – I also like this same mixture but instead of cinnamon I use cayenne pepper and ginger. This is a stronger remedy especially for flem, cough and flu.

From the Naturopathic Medicine Doctor: Soak your socks

Staying hydrated isn’t the only way water can keep your body in check come winter. Slipping on a pair of cold, wet socks, then putting dry wool socks on top, may help starve off sickness, says Leslie Solomonian, ND, an assistant professor of medicine at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. “This encourages arteries to deliver more blood to the feet in an attempt to dry out those wet socks,” she says. “If worn over night, this will drive circulation throughout the entire body, which increases surveillance of the immune system.” Bonus: It also helps pull fluids away from your head, where they tend to accumulate when you’re coming down with something, says Dr. Solomonian. How cold is cold enough? Chilly tap water is fine—but if you can tolerate it, dunking your socks in an ice bath is even better. Don’t forget the socks on top, which help keep your feet’s heat from escaping.

Onions and Garlic on the Feet at night

10 Homeopathic ways to get over being sickFor extreme cases of illness, I slice onion and garlic and place all over the bottom of the infected person’s foot (rub olive oil on the foot first). I then wrap the foot in saran wrap and place a sock on overnight. Onions and garlic have been shown to pull toxins and help the body heal. Some natural practitioners even claim that having cut onions around will absorb toxins and keep others in the family from getting sick, though I have not tried this.

Chiropractors

– In 2007, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases released a bulletin which backs up what chiropractors have been teaching for 100 years – that your nerve system plays the foremost role in your immune system and ability to fight disease.10 Homeopathic ways to get over being sick

– Research from 1992 showed that an adjustment to the thoracic spine (mid back) causes a subsequent elevation of the white blood cell count. (Those associated with increased immunity).

– The population of people under long term chiropractic care, have a rate of immunity 200% higher than the average population.

– For years, chiropractors report their patients demonstrate improvements related to immune problems: the disappearance or lessening of allergy symptoms, quicker recovery from or less frequent and severe colds and other respiratory infections, and more.

– Children benefit most from this as their nervous systems and immune systems are the most impressionable. A 1989 study compared the health of kids raised getting adjusted and those being treated allopathically. Kids under chiropractic care had less use of medications, including antibiotics.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture may be the answer to illness prevention. “It makes sure that all of your body’s fluids are circulating as they should,” says Mary van den Berg-Wolf, MD, a

She suggests seeking this treatment every 6 to 8 weeks during the cold season. You can also ask for the “acupuncture flu shot.” It targets spots in your upper and lower back thought to shield against the influenza virus.

Chi Gong

In a way similar to acupuncture, moving your inner energy or chi will strengthen your immune system. You can do this anytime you like and it’s free. Check out my tutorials here.

Meditation

Researchers from the University of Wisconsin at Madison found that people who meditated took 76 percent fewer sick days than those who were not so zen. *2Screen shot 2013-11-08 at 3.20.34 PMMeditating trains you to stay focused and calm, which helps alleviate stress that can leave you vulnerable to infection. Putting It All Together During Illness:

There are a lot of options in natural illness treatment I have mentioned in the 4 parts of this series (part 1 (supplements), part 2 (herbs), part 4) so what do you actually do if illness hits? Below is my list to knock it out whenever anyone I know starts to show signs of illness. The earlier you can catch an illness, often the easier it is to beat.

• Oil Pull with Essen tial Oils, then put 2 drops of EO’s on the feet and 2 drops in a glass of pure water to drink.
• Hydrogen Peroxide in ears (be careful if you have sensitive skin. only use 3% and dilute if needed)
• Removal of all grains, wheat, dairy, sugars, etc.
• Consumption of mostly water and herbal teas (my favorite tea here)
• Garlic in water followed by cinnamon honey tea (twice a day)
• Elderberry syrup every 2 hours
• Vitamin C and Zinc every 2-3 hours in small doses until bowel tolerance
• Apple cider vinegar (1-2 table sp) in water to gargle and drink every 3-4 hours
• Hot tea with melted coconut oil before bed
• Onions and garlic on feet during sleep
• Relax and meditate or do Chi Gong to move your energy in the meridians.
